Hindus celebrated the 5247th Birth Anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna on the 30th of August 2021. As per Hindu scriptures, he was born in prison on the eighth day of the waning moon in Shraavana ( August- September) as per the Hindu lunisolar calendar in the present Mathura, the state of U.P. in India. Krishna's maternal uncle Kansa imprisoned his mother, Devaki and his father, Vasudev, long before his birth. After the marriage of Devaki, once King Kansa heard a divine announcement from the sky, "O Demon King, eighth son of your sister Devaki would kill you!" (A King involved in sinful life was called demon King) Hearing the voice, he imprisoned his real sister Devaki and her husband, Vasudev. He killed seven children of Devaki as soon as they were born.
It is written that when Krishna took birth, all prison doors were unlocked, and Vasudev went out of prison. He replaced Krishna to save his life with his sister Yashoda's daughter, born simultaneously. The Srimad Bhagwat says that the girl was the only illusion of Yogmaya created by Vishnu, whose Krishna's incarnation was.
Hindus, pan India, on the day, decorate Krishna's Idol in temples and their houses. Some devotees keep fast till midnight. The life of Krishna had been elaborately described in Hindu scriptures like the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana, the Brahma Vaivarta Purana and the Bhagavad Gita. He is mentioned in many Hindu philosophical, theological, and mythological texts.
We come to know the name Krishna in the first millennium through scriptures. All details relating to his birth and life are based on scriptures not corroborated by archaeological surveys. The possibility of fictional elements in the texts does not rule out. You may be curious how could I write the exact years of Krishna's Birth.
The classical Hindu astronomy, elaborately discussed in the treatises called siddhāntas. The authors such as Aryabhata (born in 476 AD), Varāhamihira, Brahmagupta (7th century A.D.), etc., the ancient Vedic notions on the cycle of years, embracing round numbers of solar and lunar years together, were developed. On the one hand, greater cycles were calculated to include the planets' revolutions, and the theory was elaborated of general conjunction of heavenly bodies at 0° longitude after the completion of each cycle. On the other hand, cosmologists speculated the existence of several successive cycles constituting successive periods of evolution and involution of the universe.
The ancient Indian city of Dwarka is known in Hindu culture to have been the great and beautiful city of Krishna. The Hindu writings say that when Krishna left the Earth, at the age of 125 years to join the spiritual world, the age of Kali began, and the sea submerged Dwarka and its inhabitants. The fact has been verified by the discovery of the legendary city of Dvaraka, which is said to have been founded by Sri Krishna, is an important landmark in validating the historical relevance of Mahabharata. It has set at rest the doubts expressed by historians about the historicity of Mahabharata and the very existence of Dwaraka city.
The period calculated as the basis of the universe's chronology was the mahāyuga, consisting of 4,320,000 sidereal years. It was divided into four yugas, or stages, on the hypothesis of an original "order" (dharma) established in the first stage, the Kṛta Yuga (1,728,000 years) gradually decaying in the three others, the Tretā (1,296, 000 years), Dvāpara (864,000 years), and present Kali yugas (432,000 years).
According to Puranic sources, Krishna's departure marks the end of Dvapara Yuga and the start of Kali Yuga, which is dated 17/18 February 3102 BCE. Lasting for 432,000 years, Kali Yuga began 5,122 years ago and has 426,878 years left as of 2021 CE.
